PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL: http://hypb.st/PpLFal The artist formerly known as Mos Def, and now Yasiin Bey, presents the video for his highly charged "Ni**as in Poorest," launched today in honor of Malcolm X's death anniversary. Performed over the same hard-hitting instrumental that The Throne rocked over, Bey is ferocious as he takes a socioeconomic approach to what people have dubbed "luxury rap." While Mos Def wanted to know what "Umi Says," Yasiin Bey is now telling it like it is. IKEA® and HYPEBEAST Design the Ideal Sneakerhead Bedroom

01:45
Moving is the chance to transform an expressionless space into a reflection of your personality and style. Whether your move is into a new apartment, or into a dorm during the back-to-school Fall season, you always want your new home base to be an expression of what you love. For sneaker fans, the challenges of setting up a new apartment can be unique — wall space and storage are always at a premium, both for displaying your kicks and stashing your shoe boxes; accessibility is important, and you still need somewhere to sleep. With that in mind, HYPEBEAST has partnered with IKEA to set up a clean and contemporary sneakerhead space. Minimalistic LACK and VITTSJÖ shelves serve as the focal points of the room showcasing all of your footwear grails while a KALLAX storage reduces clutter and keeps your space clear of boxes, leaving room to catch some z’s. Check out the complete room in the video above and visit the IKEA website to help get your design inspiration going. Here we have a look in the life of the artist and how his approach to music is considered quite unorthodox compared to his peers. Offset Goes Back-to-School Shopping With HYPEBEAST

03:27
Without a doubt, the biggest day in fashion is the first day of school – at least for anyone under the age of 18. After months of planning the perfect fit, at the expense of your mother, your first-day attire sets the tone for the remainder of the year, especially for those chasing the coveted “Best Dressed Award.” Yet, even if fashion isn’t your first choice of self-expression, it’s certainly not one to be glanced over during your formative years. “You can’t come into the cafeteria with fake J’s on […] they’d jump on the table and point at your shoes,” says former Best Dress Award-winner Kiari Kendrell Cephus, a.k.a. Offset, one-third of hip-hop power-group Migos. “Clothes’ always been my main thing, I use to go to school just to be fresh,” Offset tells us as he takes us shopping with his young daughter at Trico Field in New York City. Here, the budding rap superstar talks more about his fashion upbringing, how his style has evolved over the years, and what brands catch his eye the most these days. Offset concludes our conversation with a little bit of advice for those high schoolers chasing their own “Best Dressed Award.” “Keep it original, do what you like, do what you feel. Don’t let no one tell you you’re doing something wrong." Already a high-profile model, artist & stylist, the 23-year-old Harlem native is poised to make a huge splash in the near future. Warren Lotas Explores Past Experiences to Create His Wiz Khalifa-Approved Customs

With a little bit of help from fashion wunderkinds Luka Sabbat and Austin "Asspizza" Butts, Lotas' hand-painted flannels, jeans and jackets have ended up on celebrities like Wiz Khalifa — yes, he is responsible for some of Wiz's 'cool pants' that Kanye West alluded to in that infamous, 17-part Twitter exchange. "The Legend," Mark Gonzales Finds Perfect Balance in Fine Art and Skateboarding | HYPEBEAST Diaries

04:22
HYPEBEAST meets up with artist Mark Gonzales in his Lower East Side studio. The Supreme team member still skates, but has mellowed from his raucous early years. “I think at 50, I think I reached the type of maturity where my art is fine art,” he chuckles. “Where before it was just kid stuff.” “Maybe inside the skateboard world I’m someway on the outside,” Gonzales reflects. “I’m a different way.” As he manuals through Chinatown and shows us the knick-knacks inside his studio space, he meditates on the contrast between his physical approach to skateboarding and emotional take on artwork. “I’m not afraid to … break a bone or … lose my teeth,” Gonzales affirms. “But… I like soft colors, I like pink, I like a lot of things that aren’t really ‘tough.’” Inside the space, the Gonz maneuvers around half-finished canvases, Funko Pop figurines, old skate magazines and retro Makaha boards to get to his window-side workspace. “Mostly you can see it’s pretty messy, that’s the way I work.” he admits “Sometimes it’s hard for ideas to formulate with a clean environment.” As he paints, Gonzales considers how his work attitude has shifted “It’s kinda weird to not have a reason but just to be following an instinct. In my opinion, thats what makes good art.” For up-to-date news and more: http://HYPEBEAST.com Subscribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_... A Guide to T-Shirt Printing With Mike Cherman of ICNY Sport (Part 1)

02:06
Get the latest from HYPEBEAST TV by hitting the SUBSCRIBE button! For many designers, the simple graphic tee became their first entry into fashion — a notion some may consider the epitome of early streetwear designs. A veteran of the practice, Mike Cherman continues to print for his brand ICNY Sport, interpolating uncomplicated graphics onto shirts made of quality materials like water repellent, sweat-wicking fabrics and reflective 3M strips. The basic process boils down to drafting a logo on his computer and printing it out with a vinyl cutter — this small step that thus launched countless careers in the industry. Jimmy Butler Shows Us His Massive Jordan Collection and Outfits for NBA Playoffs | HYPEBEAST Visits

05:06
With his Philadelphia 76ers holding down the third seed in the Eastern Conference, Jimmy Butler is beginning to enter the postseason mindset. He’s getting focus, watching film, retooling his conditioning, and picking out his fits. In today’s NBA, where personal branding can be the difference of millions of dollars during contract negotiations, off-court style and overall appearance can be very important to a player. Butler, a Texan with a love for country music, may not be the first hooper you envision when thinking about style in the NBA, but over the last few years, Jimmy has garnered some well-deserved attention from the fashion world. It began early in his career in Chicago when he was seen wearing cowboy boots to-and-from the arena, and not for the trendy ironic reasons, but because he genuinely likes cowboy boots. Then, in 2015, Butler shocked the footwear industry with his departure from adidas to Jordan Brand, a move that cost him a 75% pay-cut. For him however, the transition wasn’t about the money, but more about his personal style and preference. From there, the four-time NBA All-Star has been seen chumming it up with his fellow NBA-ers at Paris Fashion Week, and getting featured in heritage publications like Vogue and GQ. In this episode of HYPEBEAST Visits, one that follows the likes of Mesut Özil and Nick Young, Jimmy Buckets takes us on a tour of his Pennsylvania home, offering insight into his personal style and approach to fashion. Along the way we get a look at his massive wardrobe and sneaker vault, while also meeting his longtime stylist, Khalilah Beavers. Vince Staples Hits Disneyland

And as any self-respecting rapper knows, there's only one way to go about that -- take a trip to the "Happiest Place on Earth." This Vintage T-Shirt Dealer Sells to Kanye, Jerry Lorenzo and Migos

06:55
Back in August of 2017, Patrick Matamoros sat down with HYPEBEAST Radio to talk about how he met Kanye West and the resurgence of old band merch. He also described what it was like collaborating with Jerry Lorenzo and Fear of God on a collection. Now, for our docu-series, the vintage T-shirt dealer takes us through one of his typical days. When Matamoros first moved to New York City, he set up on the corner of Prince and Mercer streets, in the epicenter of Manhattan's SoHo district. He recalls nearly giving up after spending a whole day there not selling a single tee until a man purchased multiple pieces right as he began packing up. Fast forward and he's meeting with Chris Gibbs of Union and taking us on a house call with music producer Benny Blanco in Los Angeles. Take a look above at what it's like to be a full-time vintage tee dealer for the stars where "finding a shirt is like Fight Club" and stay tuned for our next installment soon. In case you missed it, our last video had Blondey McCoy talking about the pressures of being a pro skater, fashion icon and balancing his love for art and music.

HYPEBEAST Spaces: The Hundreds

03:06
Say what you will about The Hundreds, but the brand's progression is completely undeniable. From humble beginnings in a studio in Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles, the brand has blossomed into a full-scale operation replete with its own marketing, design, sales, and editorial teams -- all hosted in-house. Founder Bobby Hundreds has been made an icon in streetwear for the brand's rampant growth, yet still yearns not to revel in the brand's ostensible success: "It's important for us to...have it be casual and inspiring -- especially for our creative team. Also, [it's important to] make work not feel so much like work." Accordingly, its current space in Vernon, CA boasts a mini-ramp, arcade room, and full-scale kitchen alongside clean workspaces -- a dream space for young creatives of all kinds. In the latest edition of HYPEBEAST Spaces, we explore the space with a personal guided tour courtesy of Bobby Hundreds himself.

The British designer’s work with the likes of retail giants Uniqlo and Topman, and luxury brands Mulberry, McQ by Alexander McQueen, and Dunhill to name a few, helped propel him to the position of Style Director for French fashion house Louis Vuitton, arguably the pinnacle of contemporary menswear. If he isn’t catching flights across timezones for various projects, Jones finds himself traveling between his residences in London and Paris almost routinely. ”Easy and convenient” is the name of the game when it comes to his essentials, which include limited releases from his current employers and surprisingly (or not) a pair of kicks which any sneakerhead would die for. An unreleased Monogram Tote Bag holds a couple days worth of clothes, while all of his chargers and accessories are stored in a limited Nemeth Pochette made in collaboration with Isetan. To ensure maximum comfort on any plane ride, Jones brings with him a personalized cashmere scarf and a smaller, more discreet monogram pouch packed with all of his in-flight essentials. He also travels with his rose gold MacBook Air and a stationary set from the POOL aoyama to work on-the-go. GULLYGUYLEO Explains His Internet Fame and Connection to Supreme

The latest iteration of our 'In Real Life' series takes us to Britain, where we spent the day with Leo Mandella, better known as @gullyguyleo. The young fashion icon has built an impressive following — over 500,000 Instagram followers — and was tapped to become the face of Converse‘s “Rated One Star” campaign. Mandella built his fanbase with outfits that incorporated increasingly rare goods from the likes of Supreme and Palace. After showcasing how he updates his school uniform with personalized flair, Mandella states, “Everyone was kinda dressing the same … it was more about dressing to fit in than dressing how you wanna dress.” After school, he dons yellow Golf le Fleur sneakers and a matching puffer vest, taking us back to his parents house. He walks us through the development of his personal style in this episode, starting with one of his first Supreme pieces and leading to his impressive collection of sneakers. Produce Your Next Album in a Musician's Space Designed by IKEA® and HYPEBEAST

Making music is a non-stop process — inspiration can strike at any time during the day or night, so having the right setup to execute your vision is super important. A student musician’s room, be it a dorm or an apartment, needs to be a place that not only inspires, but is functional enough to be a workspace for developing your ideas. It must be a space where you can set up all of your equipment and still leave room to store your music, whether analog or digital. Most importantly, you need bed for those times you need to rest your eyes after an all-night beat-making session. Joji Goes Desk Shopping, "Phones" Drake & Performs with 88rising

07:18
Fresh off the release a Trippie Redd-assisted acoustic duet version of "18," 88rising affiliate Joji decided to enjoy the spoils of his success with a trip to everyone's favorite Scandinavian home furnishings institution: IKEA. Documenting the shopping spree -- and the energetic performance that capped off the day -- we accompanied Joji as he picked up some new furniture and opened up about his origins. Born and raised in Japan, Joji learned about American culture like many other overseas kids his age did: rap music and 2000s internet culture. From early YouTube and internet humor to Lil Wayne's classic 2008 classic "A Milli," the most significant parts of Joji's upbringing gave him the foundations he needed for the multi-discipline career he has now. While Joji was nervous when he first started making music, everything paid off after the first few songs and he now stands as one of the modern era's more acclaimed singer-songwriters. Joji’s 'In Tongues' Deluxe EP out now. For up-to-date news and more: http://HYPEBEAST.com Subscribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_... Artist Tyrrell Winston Turns Trash to Fine Art | HYPEBEAST IMPRESSIONS

03:54
Years ago, Tyrrell Winston began scavenging trash around his Brooklyn, NY neighborhood to utilize as materials for his collage artworks and sculptures. Winston is especially privy to using discarded cigarette butts, basketballs, and nets for his latest pieces. Oftentimes, the LA-born creative would walk for miles to collect trash for repurposing — a charitable and meaningful endeavor for the artist who aims to shed light on the stories behind every ditched item he gathers. “The perfect basketball is weathered and worn. The perfect broken net is a rusted metal chainlink net that is totally mangled. The perfect cigarette to me is a Winston cigarette. I’m biased, my last name is Winston,” he said. “[The cigarette] would have lipstick on it and it wouldn’t be too smashed up. It would still be firm.” Watch the video above to get a behind-the-scenes look at Winston’s creative process.

Skate Essentials with Tony Alva

03:12
SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL: http://hypb.st/PpLFal Our first video Essentials takes us to one of the original members of the Z-Boys skateboarding team -- Tony Alva. Catching up with Alva before his session for the 2013 Vans Downtown Showdown in Paris, France, we took a look at the skate legend's skate essentials while on the road. His ride setup includes the 'Snubby ' -- a 10 inch wide deck with similar dimensions to skateboards found in the early '80s, but with modern concave -- fitted with trucks from the Independent Truck Company and 'Cyclone' wheels from his own brand Alva -- all fitting is his custom prototype Alva skatebag. With the absence of bells and whistles, the OG rider keeps his Essentials simple as his passion for the sport has not changed since he first picked up a board some 35 years ago, only requiring what he needs to get his board rolling. Along with his signature Vans shoe, Alva also rides his long-time skating peer's (Christian Hosoi) pro-model Sk8 Hi. Coffee 'N Clothes With Nigel Sylvester

02:46
HYPEBEAST TV kicks off its inaugural episode of Coffee 'N Clothes with the charming BMX pro, Nigel Sylvester. The New York native picks up where he left off in 'HYPEBEAST MAGAZINE Issue 15,' discussing his upbringing and career over coffee at Cha Cha Matcha on Broome Street. Nigel talks about pushing the boundaries of his sport, by breaking down racial stereotypes and being multidimensional in telling his story. We then headed to A.P.C.'s brick-and-mortar on Bond Street to purchase a new pair of jeans to bike in. As he's searching for a tapered silhouette made with stretch denim -- because flexibility is paramount, Nigel explains why he would describe his style as "comfortable, functional and edgy," as well as how clothing can disarm prejudices. A Conversation with Benjamin Clymer of Hodinkee

SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL: http://hypb.st/PpLFal In its original form, HODINKEE was a Tumblr site -- then 25 year-old Benjamin Clymer's way of expressing his love for a family keepsake. From there, the website has grown into one of the most reputable names in watches, a place for watch enthusiasts and fans alike to keep up, as it were, with the wide world of timepieces. The month of May marks the five-year anniversary for the website, and accordingly Hypebeast took the opportunity to sit down with Clymer to discuss the most memorable watches he's seen, how the site has developed over time, and the future of watch culture in America. HYPEBEAST Eats... Afters Handcrafted Ice Cream

02:31
Get the latest from HYPEBEAST TV by hitting the SUBSCRIBE button! In this edition of HYPEBEAST Eats... we take you to Afters Ice Cream, a Californian dessert mainstay and pioneer of the Milky Bun. "Ice Cream is My Religion," says the wall once you enter the humble shop -- and that's exactly what the spot has to offer, ice cream, and more ice cream. But Afters isn't your typical scoop of vanilla. Founded by Andy Nguyen and Scott Nghiem, Afters specializes in the "Milky Bun," a donut filled with your choice of ice cream and topping, which then goes through a secret heat press process that warms the bun while keeping the ice cream cold. This novelty menu item flipped the dessert game around, and is now often imitated but never duplicated. This is probably due to the shop's line of in-house created flavors, such as Cookie Monster, Jasmine Milk Tea and Vietnamese Coffee. Make sure to drop by one of its locations if you're in town. 21 Savage, Keanu Reeves, Lonzo Ball at Saint Laurent SS20 Show on Malibu Beach

01:20
Miley Cyrus, Lonzo Ball, Jerry Lorenzo, Hailey Bieber were also in attendance at the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2020, shown in sunny Los Angeles, is Vaccarello fully realizing a progressive revision of the house, delivering an array of striking looks that reinvent the “heroin chic” popularized by Slimane, without completely abandoning the slim cuts that contemporary Saint Laurent is known for. Sleek blazers, body-hugging jeans, gently-pointed boots and mostly-unbuttoned shirts retain the tenets that make the brand one of Kering’s reliable moneymakers. Statement outerwear, like raw-hemmed gown coats, sparkling bombers and marching band-inspired jackets, provide a bold counterpoint to understated all-black looks, with leather pants and monochrome scarves gently nudging the looks towards boldness. The latter half of the show demonstrates the new values informing Vaccarello’s design ethos, with a press release noting the influence drawn from “the irreverent allure of Mick Jagger and the Parisian nonchalance of Serge Gainsbourg,” bolstered by the looks worn by Jagger’s Stones during the 1975 tour. Sequined one-shoulder tops, deep v-cut shirts and mesh short-sleeves are abetted by waist-covering belts and enormous, draping trousers. Though one could argue that androgynous Saint Laurent styling began with Sliman, Vaccarello has elevated the conceit to new heights, with bare-chested models swaggering down the runway with only a cropped leather jacket or see-through scoop-neck shirt atop the wide pants. Minimalist sandals, thin scarves and minute silver jewelry reinforce the collection’s casual refusal of gender typing.

MADSAKI Thinks "Perfect Art" Is Boring and Talks Relationship With Murakami

04:12
Just before the launch of his solo show with Galerie Perrotin in Paris, we caught up with MADSAKI at his Tokyo studio to get an exclusive look at his new works for "French Fries With Mayo." With his latest exhibition, the artist is once again displaying his signature defiant use of the paint medium to poke fun at the fine-art masters of Europe. Along with some original works, notable newly created haphazard artistic recreations draw from the recognizable works of Eugène Delacroix, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, Édouard Manet and more. In our candid studio visit, MADSAKI points to how his nomadic childhood informed his view of art and how visits to museums of the world sparked his desire to reimagine "perfect art." The artist also talks about how moving to New Jersey at the age of six from Japan forced him to face his cultural identity in relation to his foreign surroundings. MADSAKI then offered some rare insight on how Instagram facilitated his chance meeting Takashi Murakami at a time where the art world just wasn't noticing him. Finishing off our studio visit, MADSAKI recalled his time at Parsons School of Art and Design laughing about how he has gained notoriety for the same visual style that he received flak for at the prestigious school.

Japan Blue Jeans Explains Why Japanese Denim Has to Be Handmade

03:18
Get the latest from HYPEBEAST TV by hitting the SUBSCRIBE button! Some of the best jeans in the world are crafted in Kojima, a seaside district of Kurashiki, Okayama province. Widely known as Japan’s “denim capital,” Kojima has long been the textile mecca of the country and is where jeans were first produced in Japan. Amongst the cluster of denim manufacturers in the area, Japan Blue has separated itself with loyal followers through its quality in production. “We spend most of our time developing and creating the material, because that’s the essential element to quality denim” says Hiroki Kishimoto, longtime designer and founder of Japan Blue Jeans. Continuing the tradition of crafting durable and timeless denim, Kishimoto and his team undergo a meticulous process each season, from the special wash and dye treatments to the way the denim is hand cut and sewn. While denim originally hails from the States, Kojima denim has set itself apart from competitors in the market by portraying a unique beauty in their jeans that reflects Kojima’s culture. We visited Japan Blue’s studio in Okayama to learn more about the “Kojima way” of creating denim. In addition to the traditions of denim, Japan Blue is working with renown denim retailer Okayama Denim on an upcoming collaborative project. While details are sparse for now, be on the look out for this very special release when it drops later this year. A$AP Ferg's Celine Bag, Yamborghini Chain, Nextel Walkie Talkie & More | HYPEBEAST Essentials

We sat down with A$AP Ferg to break down some of his New York key summer items. The common denominator to every accessory that was featured is the connection to A$AP Ferg’s childhood and the knowledge acquired from his travels around the world. Born and raised in Harlem, New York, it makes sense that the first item featured was an all red New York Yankees cap. He follows up with two CELINE bags, one grey and one green. “During the summer, I’m always walking with a CELINE bag, especially traveling, because it can fit so much in it.” While discussing his love for the Motorola i530 Yellow Rugged Walkie Talkie Nextel model, Ferg shares that he’s working with Pharrell for his next project and that the phone inspired the music. “I’m transforming into Flip Phone Shorty,” he asserts. “This inspired a lot the songs, I just bring a rack of these. I own like 10 Nextels and lay it right across the control board and just kind of get inspired by them.” He later shows off his Fendi jewelry bag that was given to him by his grandmother. One of the main items spotlighted is a bike chain from his recent collaboration with BMX brand Redline Bikes. The “A Collaboration Of Two True Originals” collection is made up of a limited-edition RL 275 bike and a line of original merch that matches the design and color scheme of the bike.

If you’ve already conquered the task of screen printing t-shirts, what’s the next step? Designing sneakers of course. To aid in this challenge Jon Tang, creative director of FRONTEER, explains the intricacies involved when designing and making a sneaker from scratch. With help from fashion designer Mike Cherman, the pair examine the necessary steps from initial ideation and sketching to the accompanying “Tech Pack”–a factory legible translation of the freehand sketches that contains the necessary data when it comes to scale, all the angles and views, a material map that lays out the foundation for textures and make up and more. Jon continues to share his advice when it comes to starting the project you may have in mind, along with some words of wisdom to help tackle the albeit daunting undertaking.
